Director General
It is a privilege and honour to head the National Security Guard (NSG) - a “World-Class Zero Error Force”- consisting of Officers/Personnel from the Army, Central Armed Police Forces and State Police Forces. NSG has rendered selfless service to the Nation since it’s Raising in 1984. NSG, through its dedication, training and operational achievements, has become a formidable Force. Whenever wherever deployed, the Black Cat Commandos of the NSG have executed their task with elan and courage.
The NSG remains steadfast in its resolve to be ever ready to meet all challenges to ensure security of the Nation and live up to its motto “Sarvatra Sarvottam Suraksha.”
About the Director General
Shri M A Ganapathy, 1986 batch Indian Police Service officer of the Uttarakhand cadre took over as the Director General, National Security Guard on 18th March, 2021.
Shri M A Ganapathy graduated in Economics from Madras Christian College, Chennai (1984) and did his Post Graduation in International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi (1986). He has a degree in Law from Delhi University (2007).
During his career spanning 34 years, Shri M A Ganapathy has served as Superintendent of Police and Sr. Superintendent of Police in various districts of U.P, including Sonebhadra, Hardoi, Nainital, Meerut, Kanpur, Allahabad, etc. He has also served in the CBI as SP Special Crime Branch, Delhi and DIG Anti-Corruption I, Delhi. In Uttarakhand, he has served as IG Crime/Law & Order, IG Garhwal and IG Mahakumbh, 2010, etc. Shri M A Ganapathy has also served in the MHA as Joint Secretary, Left Wing Extremism and Joint Secretary, Internal Security I. He was also on central deputation to CISF and functioned as Additional DG /Spl. DG, Airport Sector.
Shri M A Ganapathy has the experience of dealing with multifarious policing problems, including left wing extremism.
Shri M A Ganapathy was DGP, Uttarakhand Police between 2016-17 and he served as DG, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security between 2020-21, just prior to his appointment as DG, NSG.
Shri M A Ganapathy is an Alumnus of National Defence College, New Delhi (2006). He has attended the Oxford University Programme on ‘Negotiations’ (2012) and the Harvard University Programme on ‘Leadership in the 21st Century; Chaos, Conflict and Courage (2013).
Shri M A Ganapathy is a recipient of Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2002) and Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2010).
